Don't let your Windows installation become swiss cheese

More and more we depend on this ever changing world of technology. In most cases, our computers have become our life-line and without them, we are lost! I can definitely vouch for that! Well, if we don't take care of our computers, we become victims of the "Swiss Cheese Theory". Here's a good analogy of what the Swiss Cheese Theory is: Your Windows OS has this beautiful interface with pictures on the desktop and nice pretty icons but if you were able to lift this cover like the hood on a car, you'd see something that looks like swiss cheese. You'd see tons of holes of all sizes (which would represent the impact and severity of an attack if a virus or malware agent were to access your machine via these holes known as security holes). If you are a Microsoft Windows user, you have been or will be well indoctrinated directly or indirectly of what can happen while being connected to the internet. Viruses and other malware agents decide to enter your machine without your permission in most cases. Well there are basically only two lines of defense: 1 - disconnect from the internet and never connect (not an option for most) or 2 - Install good virus protection and just as important, be sure to run the Windows Updates to close those security holes which have been or can be breached by these agents that wreak havoc on your machine. Regular maintenance on your machines is a very good idea and if you are up to it and feel comfortable, try to perform maintenance on your machine at least once (twice is better) a month.
